In New York, many buildings are burning in the city, firemen try and help a boy from the building, but their fire ladder is to short to reach. Wolverine tells the firemen to drench in with water, then he runs up and jumps off the top of the ladder and into the apartment through the window. Wolverine follows the scent of the child to a bedroom where he finds the child under a bed. The child tells Wolverine that his name Sean and that his mom told him not go with strangers. Wolverine tells Sean that he is a super hero and is here to save him from the fire. Wolverine picks up Sean and tries to find an exit that isn't blocked by fire. A man appears in the fire and tells Wolverine to follow him if he wants to live. Wolverine follows the man in the thick black smoke. The man tells Wolverine that the exit is just through a room that is fully engulfed in fire. Wolverine tells Sean to not be scared and promises to get him out safely. Wolverine takes off his shirt and covers Sean in it. Wolverine runs through the fire, his hair catches fire and his skin blisters and sizzles on fire.

Outside the building he releases Sean to the firemen, the firemen return Sean to his mother. The mother ask to see her child's rescuer, but the firemen keep Sean's mother from seeing Wolverine. Wolverine still burning, falls to his knees, his flesh crackles like bacon from the fire. Paramedics can't believe that Wolverine is still alive,. Wolverines body begins to heal itself and ask to be hosed down with water again because he saw an old man in the building.

Wolverine reenters the complex to save the old man, the man runs to the roof of the building. Wolverine follows him to the roof, but the man attacks him with his staff. The man ask if Wolverine knew who he was. Wolverine tells him that his elektra's master, Stick. Stick ask if Wolverine knew why he was there, Wolverine tells him that he was their to put him on the back on path. Stick tells Wolverine that nobody could put him on the path, all he could do was tell him that the path exist, Wolverine must choose if he is going to walk the path. The roof of the building becomes unstable as the building burns up. Stick tells Wolverine that if he jumps off the roof in a certain spot he will survive, Wolverine ask how he could trust him, Stick tells Wolverine that it is his choose to trust him or not. Wolverine jumps off the roof in the spot Stick said to, Wolverine flies through the fire and lands onto a firemen' ladder on the other side. Human Torch flies over to Wolverine and tells him that the remaining super heroes are regrouping in Freedom Square to coordinate a final offensive against Onslaught.
