A number of years ago, I was doing a study on behalf of three universities wherein I had been asked to research what programming courses were being taught at those universities in comparison to what programming languages students were really needing to learn in order to get jobs when they actually rejoined the workforce. Students take courses in computer architecture, operating systems, advanced programming techniques, database management, network administration & design, developing internet applications using ASP and Java, and general education. Students will follow along with basic examples in two programming languages: Python and JavaScript. Applications programmers meet with clients and designers to understand the scope of the project before they begin to write the code. Students develop high performance database applications using frameworks such as PHP and Python.
