Fruit of My Loins
In honor of a super hero.
They sat in the dimly light room, one facing the other.
At times, he could swear he was looking at a mirror reflection of a 20 year old long past by.
“I don’t understand this dream,” one spoke to the other. “I don’t get it.” he confirmed.
“It’s not a dream that requires understanding.” The answer seemed appropriate. “I was your age once, a century ago,” he went on as best he could remember. “If you don’t face the beast within you now while you’re young, by the time you get to my age, you will lose sight of control. That’s something people like you and me cannot afford to do.” he warned.
CONTROL.
The very word when spoken meant more than the sounds coming from the mouth and entering the ears. It was life, life as a human.
A lifetime of self battles to dominate the beast that dwelled not so deep within.
The seed has now been passed to the offspring and the offspring must wipe the cobwebs from his eyes and see who and what he is. Face it. Know it. Control it.
Control. There’s that word again.
A deep sigh. “Teach me.” Submission at last.
“It’s a wise decision, and it isn’t a sign of weakness,” he reassures.
Hand on shoulder. Both rising up.
The two walk together towards the shelter of the lush, deep green canopied wild. A breath sucked in, then a long sigh. Father and son. So many years to learn from, mistakes of the past, unimaginable pain, now they will be tools to shape a better tomorrow.
